Several marketing giants believe that keyword research is useless, including Neil Patel & John,

To be clear, they are right from their point of view,

but according to my past 3 years of experience, keyword research plays a huge role in rankings.

So if you want higher Google rankings and more traffic, you’ll definitely love this updated guide.

What is keyword Research:

Keyword research as a term itself defines keyword research perfectly.

“ It is simply a process to conduct research before creating content. It consists of words or phrases that are entered into a search engine to find specific information ”

It is a bonus For any SEO Expert, to gain an even deeper understanding of their audience.

To get more traffic from the search engines, keyword research can be the very first step.

Importance Of Keyword Research:

Before launching any business, keyword research is still the most important step.

I have already made the mistake of not taking interest in keyword research which cause for me;

  1. Lake of understanding about site’s Audience
  2. No traffic monitoring
  3. No ranking keywords & many more
knowledgeshout rank math analytics proof

After keyword research, I realized a dramatic increase in rankings. If you are making the same mistake, stop it and spend some time researching keywords instead.

Everyone wants to rank their articles, but only 5-10% of experts would succeed

Do you know why?

People are making mistakes while doing keyword research because they start writing without knowing that in which phrase they should rank in search engine results.

Keyword research is also helpful when you are aiming to target foreign countries (International SEO) since you don’t know which type of content they want and what they are searching for.

However, keyword research allows you to target your favorite countries and  gain a better understanding of their audiences

Furthermore, keyword research helps you to better understand your targeted audience so you can  write content accordingly

Let’s Take a Tiny example

For example, you are performing keyword reaching for 2 countries pakistan & U.S.A  on the “Ice cream” keyword

After conducting Initial keyword research you might find that in  Pakistan “10 to 20 years” youth searching for “ice cream”, whereas in the US (30 to 40 years) men searching for  “ice cream”,

thus you can see that there is an age difference in searches.

Therefore, you can target your content accordingly. For Pakistani audiences, you might write content on “best chocolate ice cream flavor” because kids mostly love chocolate.

In the USA you might write “best sugar free ice cream flavor” because there is a higher likelihood that elders will have diabetes.

Here, you have understood your audiences and taken action according to their preferences, which might be interesting to both users and search engines alike.

Researching keywords without the proper knowledge may be time-consuming, complicated, and difficult because you must do it according to your content type.

There are various keywords type which would fit different types of content like a commercial, informational, product review and etc

Types Of Keywords:

In general, there are several kinds of keywords, but I will focus on informational, commercial, navigational, transactional types, and Tire Kicker types

Informational Keyword:

This support questionable content like How, Where, Why &, etc

Informational keywords may drive a handsome amount of traffic for your site but unable to make any conversions because these kinds of visitors searching for a solution like “How to create free Blog”, ”why exercise is good for health”

For beginners, I strongly recommend to target informational keywords on their sites in order to  get initial traffic.

Commercial Keywords:

Commercial keywords used for the advertising purpose like (Buy Now, Coupon, Discount Offer, Deal, etc)

A digital marketer or a digital marketing agency can research these types of keywords for their clients.

Commercial keywords seem to have a high conversion rate. People often have their credit cards at hand when trying to find Buy Now Keywords.

Tire Kicker Keywords:

Tire keywords search volume may high but unable to convert your visitors

Why?

Because Tire keyword consists (Free, Free download, Cracked paid software)

By using the tire keyword, you are indicating that you will provide paid products for free then no one else will buy your paid products.

Recommendation: Make content by using tire keywords because as a result, you will get a chunk of organic traffic.

Navigational keyword:

Another type of keyword is navigational in this type users already aware of the company or brand name.

They perform a navigational search because These people already know the company or product and are looking for the correct website to access their products.

For example – For blogging and SEO purpose you might searching “knowledge shout.com” because you know you will find amazing stuff.

The navigation keyword is usually useful when a site is known and popular.

Keywords come in a wide variety of forms; these are the ones that are most important at the moment

 How To Find keywords  ideas:

Probably there are many other methods that many bloggers use, but today you will get a nitty-gritty idea of your keywords and your upcoming content.

With these methods, you no longer worry about content ideas because this guide is about solving your real-time problems.

Sometimes “Child is in the armpit, chaos in the city” means you are facing many keyword queries while scrolling your social Media & while reading your  Emails but you unable to find ideas about your content

After this, you can come up with LOTS of keyword ideas.

The one of a great source for keywords ideas in social media.

Social Media :

One of the great source for keyword ideas is social media sites like (Quora, Reddit, Facebook, LinkedIn): I personally use these to get initial keyword ideas.

Keyword Ideas From Quora:

According to similar web, quora drives approx 577.30M visitors per month.

As we all know quora is a question & answers site with 577.30M community.

If you are finding that much traffic in one place then why aren’t you picking up some ideas for content from Quora?

In quora, you may find different queries on different topics like  (“robot.txt file for blogger”) in the results you will find different answers.

searching a keyword on quora

With one query (robot.txt file) you are  finding complete content ideas such as (“which robot.txt file is best for SEO, how can I add custom robot.txt file in blogger”)

.

searching a keyword on google and analyzing results

Due to lack of proper results, Google also lists Quora’s answers in the top 20 results,

so an individual can easily rank on this highly competitive keyword without any help of advanced keyword research.

That’s the power of Quora.

Tip For Reddit:

The same strategy can be applied on Reddit as well, but remember one thing: Reddit is mostly used by Europeans, so if you want to rank in foreign countries, go with Reddit!

For me, however, Quora has worked like a charm, so I always recommend it whenever you need content or keyword ideas.

Google Search Suggestion:

Google auto suggestion is another way to find accurate keyword ideas. I personally use it.

Each time I use the Google autosuggest feature, to get users’ queries

Suppose you type “robot.txt file for blogger” into the search bar.

Here you can pick user’s demands like “robot.txt generator, custom robot.txt for blogger &, etc”  and can answer these queries on your blog post in order to get better rankings in SERP.

Keyword Ideas From Google Related searches & FAQ Snippet:

Likewise, google auto-suggestion google also provide two more every green feature in its search engine.

  1. Google Search Related
  2. Google FAQ Snippet

With the help of these amazing features, you’ll be able to get amazing keyword ideas as well as answer of user’s queries.

Simply type your targeted keyword into the Google search bar, in my case “robot.txt file for blogger”.

…And scroll to the bottom of the page and you will find 8 keyword list which is related to this post.

The same strategy applies to google’s FAQ snippet

searching a keyword on google for people also ask

In Google’s search bar, type your keyword and after a few results, you will see “people also ask” where you’ll be able to find amazing keyword suggestions and queries related to your keywords.

Use Youtube and Bing Suggestion Tool:

YouTube and Bing auto-suggest features can also be used to get keyword ideas.

Bing:

The same strategy can be used on Bing auto suggestions as well, so you are not limited to just Google

Youtube:

YouTube auto-suggest can be used for video SEO if your content is informational. In this case, it would be a good idea to include video tutorials in your posts

The auto-suggest feature on YouTube shows you the related questions asked by many users. You can cover it by creating videos and embedding the videos on your website.

Theft Keywords From competitor’s Website:

An excellent way to find awesome keywords is to analyze your competitors’ websites.

Several marketers use this trick, but no one wants to share it with anyone.

Are you aware? You can also conduct keyword research by stealing keywords from your competitors’ websites

In the language of SEO it is called competitor analyzing.

Analysing your competitor and find out in which keywords he ranks so you can create 10X better content and can easily de-rank him.

An analysis of competitor’s keywords can be done using two methods, one is paid and one is free. In the free version, only a few features are available.

Paid Method

I would recommend to use the paid method if you have the money.

Because there are several paid tools available on the internet that can provide you with accurate information about your competitor’s keywords

One of the paid tools is semrush  by using this tool you can not only theft your competitor’s keywords but also analyze keyword gap (between you and him)

searching a keyword on semrush

Semrush comes with many helpful features, including the ability to download keywords as Excel files with just one click.

By the way, semrush providing a 7-days trial for free you can undo your subscription at any time you want

Take a look

Free Method:

For free competitor analysis, i would suggest you go with the spyFu tool

Just type your site’s URL in the search box press enter

searching a keyword on spyfu and analyzing results

You can see that my site has 107 keywords ranked in search results

By clicking on the keyword number (107), you will be able to see detailed information about each keyword

In the screenshot above, the free version of Spyfu only provides 5 keywords data, which is not enough to come up with any keyword ideas

A competitor’s keyword theft technique will smoothly work with paid tools such as Semrush, etc.

Keyword Research Tools & Extensions:

It is important to remember before we talk about this technique that the tools are only for helping purposes. They may make your job easier, but will not do keyword research for you.

Life success comes from using your own mindset and strategies. Tools can only be used for helping purpose.

I am not going to confuse you by listing 10 free vs paid tools for keyword research rather I am going to share the tools and extensions that I use personally

Free Tools & Extensions:

Whenever we talk about free tools then you will have to deal with limitations while using them

But, unwillingly with an empty pocket, we have to use these tools.

Ubersuggest Tool For Keyword Research:

Ubersuggest was created by famous marketer Neil Patel.

A freemium tool that gives you enough data with its free plan as well

Keyword Everywhere Chrome Extension for Keyword Research:

That is; Keyword Everywhere Chrome Extension

It is a free tool that can help you to save your time on keyword research & will give you amazing keywords ideas with search volume and CPC

Just go to the chrome web store and download the Keyword Everywhere extension

installing keywords everywhere extension from chrome web store

Keyword Research Terms:

It is time to talk about the terms of keywords because without the knowledge of these terms keyword researching is useless.

A lot of terms would come up in keyword research like (Keyword volume, Keyword density (KD), CPC, and so on).

Let’s discuss these terms one by one and see how they can improve rankings.

Keyword Search Volume:

Keyword volume means how many searches are happening on that particular keyword in a given timeframe.

While conducting keyword research, it is very important to find keywords that have high search traffic and low competition.

So that you will not face any difficulty in ranking and will obtain high amounts of traffic

For Example:

what is keyword volume

In the case where a keyword “on page SEO” receives 1300 searches per month, that means 1300 users are searching for 0n-page SEO every month.

So if you land in the top spot in SERP, you might receive 1300 unique visitors a month.

Sounds Good!

Recommendation: Avoid short tail keywords since a newly built site won’t be able to rank for high competitive keywords.Because marketing giants already rank for such keywords. Once you’ve built your site’s authority, go after these short-tail keywords.

Note: The volume of keywords may differ depending on the tool’s database size. You can never find accurate search volume for any keyword as accurate data belongs to only Google.

Keyword Difficulty (KD)  :

Keyword difficulty (KD) is also known as keyword competition.

It is simply a measure of how competitive a keyword is and how much time and effort it would take to rank on any search engine.

A question arises here:

Is there a specific keyword tool that you can use to analyze keyword competition?

Yes! Once again my vote goes to semrush because their keyword database contains approximately 20 billion keywords

what is keyword defficulty

In this case, “On-page SEO” has 61 Keyword difficulty points, meaning it’s extremely difficult for a newbie to secure ranking for this term.

Recommendation: Research keywords that have 10-20 under KD otherwise it will be difficult to rank for these highly competitive terms

Tip: Long tail keywords might be beneficial because they mostly have low KD

Keyword CPC (Cost per Click):

The term Keyword CPC which pronounced as Cost Per Click

CPC, or cost per click, is simply the price that will be paid for clicking a keyword

Don’t be confuse let me clear your doubts.

Everyone Knows Google AdSense is a CPC network, so if the owner of the website targets the keyword with a high CPC, the results are better than those of lower CPCs means he will get a high commission when someone clicks on his ad

what is keyword CPC

Similarly, the keyword “On-page SEO” has 0.49 $ CPC, which means when a click is received from an On page SEO post, the owner will receive 0.49 $ per click.

Please Note: CPC rates are dependent on geographical location.

CPC is mainly targeted by marketing giants because they already have a strong search engine position and get millions of visitors per month, so the next step for the organization is to target high CPC keywords in order to generate more revenue.

Recommendation: As a newbie, forget about searching for high CPC keywords; rather, target long tails with low competition and informative keywords to increase site traffic

Keyword Trends:

A keyword trend is simply the popularity of a keyword at a particular time. That how a specific  keyword is performing

This term is introduced by Google and can be seen using google trends.

Keyword Trends are rated from 0 to 100

If you are targeting the short term and trying to increase your traffic in a short period of time, then you must focus on keywords trend

For Example:

using keyword trend analyzing keyword

“Happy new year Wishes” is a perfect example of a keyword trend which means every year from 1st to 30th of December, traffic & keyword popularity increases greatly

Google Trends can also be seen showing a big spike in traffic between 27-dec and 2 June.

Benefits Of Using Google Trend While Keyword Researching:

  1. Having low-quality or outdated content will suffer your website’s rankings, but by monitoring your keyword trend you can update your content accordingly.
  2. Through Google Trends, you can also keep an eye on which keywords your competitors are ranking for

And many bunches of other benefits available of Google Trends

Keyword Research Technique:

I know you are waiting for this topic! Now the wait is over.

I’m going to reveal a technique for keyword researching that will work well on a newly built website

In short, it’s the KGR (Keyword Density Ratio) technique.

Many techniques are available on the internet, but this one helped me rank out in my earlier days.

What is KGR (Keyword Golden Ration) Technique:

It is pronounced as The Keyword Golden Ratio (KGR) & originally discovered by Doug Cunnington

A way to find very low competitive keywords that will actually rank.

According to KGR if you publish a piece of content targeting the keyword then your article might rank in the top 50 just after publishing.

Why Use KGR:

showing analytics of google analytics tool in order to give proof of kgr technique

I believe you should get an answer to your question, as to why using KGR while keyword researching?

I used the keyword golden ratio technique on my website and saw a positive impact on my ranking.

As I started Knowledgeshout, I have been using the KGR technique because there is no niche available now with low competition.

But,

As a newbie, I was unable to rank higher so the KGR technique helped me out to achieve this.

There are many benefits of using the KGR Technique

  1. KGR  technique helps newly launched sites get smaller wins faster.
  2. Site owners can use KGR to identify the keywords they are missing out on by figuring out the keyphrases.

You can add it to your cram list later for additional benefits

How To Use Keyword Golden Ratio Technique?

keyword golden ratio formula

By seeing the above image, I hope you understand the KGR formula

Hahaa Joking…. Let me explain the whole funda

Before going to deep drive on KGR first understand value ranges.

  1. 0.25 = Great Value
  2. 0.25 – 1.00 Workable
  3. 1.00 or greater then that is Bad Value

In summary, you must achieve < 0.25 score  in order to appear in the top 50 results of SERPs

pointing out a keyword for KGR technique in semrush

Assume a keyword is “best blog niches 2020” as I have indicated in the above image

The volume of that particular keyword is “417” – now let’s perform KGR Formula on this keyword

Formula = KGR = no of allintitle results / search volume

Allintitle: is simply a formula to perform a deep search on the google search engine. This feature tells the user how many results have a particular keyword in their titles

Don’t be confused, let’s look at the practical work

performing allintitle saerch on google

Just place your keyword after allintitle. In our case “allintitle: best blog niches in 2021”

As you can see # of allintitle results = 19 and search volume = 417

KGR value should be = 19/417= 0.045

Our KGR value is “0.045” & that is a brilliant value because that figure is < 0.25

Now you can focus on that specific keyword in your post & it might rank higher in the top 50 search results

How I Perform Keyword Research (paracticle):
